Co-founder and Co-CEO, Savoy Companies

I write about Dallas apartments, Opportunity Zones and running a real estate company on AI.

Hi, I'm Barrett Linburg. I'm in the apartment business in Dallas, Texas, and have been for about 20 years.

I'm the co-founder and Co-CEO of Savoy Companies with my business partner, Seth Bame. Savoy invests in, builds, renovates and manages apartments in Texas. That's all we do.

Most of my work is in North Oak Cliff, just south of downtown Dallas. Since 2020 the Savoy team has renovated old buildings there and built new ones next to them, a few blocks at a time. Along the way I found a part of the tax code called Opportunity Zones. Savoy has since raised $95 million of Opportunity Zone equity for 25 Texas apartment projects, and I explain the tax mechanics on X, where more than 170,000 people follow a guy who posts about a weird part of the tax code. I also edit OZ HQ, a free reference site for OZ investors.

Seth and I are also rebuilding how Savoy works around AI. About 20 of our leaders work with Claude every day. None of it talks to residents or vendors. The point is to make our people better at their jobs, not to replace the person who answers the phone.
